Lemonade Wars put young entrepreneur’s skills to the test
Young entrepreneurs showed off their skills selling lemonade in the first ever Lemonade Wars in Saratoga Springs.
SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (WNYT)- Young campers in Saratoga Springs tested their business skills in a lemonade contest after a four-week summer program.
The first Lemonade Wars was held Tuesday, August 4 at Sugar Plum Farm. It marked the end of a four-week summer camp at the horse farm near the race track.
Twenty-one students from Albany’s Roots Academy at West Hill, the former Philip Schuyler Academy, learned about business and marketing from local business owners. On Tuesday, they used those lessons by making and selling lemonade.
Robin Malatino owns Sugar Plum Farm and leads the Sugar Plum Farm Foundation. The foundation provides educational programs for underprivileged children through hands-on activities.
“I gotta tell ya, I couldn’t be prouder. I want to say this is the greatest thing I’ve ever done in my whole life,” Malatino said. “I’ve had a lot of personal successes, but I’ve never ever enjoyed something as much as this.”
The students decided to donate the money they raised to help other students at Roots Academy buy school supplies.
