Moscow threatens retaliation after Andy Burnham says UK will help Ukraine start producing long-range missiles

A financial crisis that has long been predicted by Russia experts and Kremlin insiders appears to have finally arrived as banks see depositors scramble to pull out their money amid fears it may be seized.

In line with Group of Seven (G7) efforts to disrupt the Russian military-industrial base’s reliance on foreign IT systems, in June 2024 the U.S. Department of Commerce and the Department of the Treasury jointly issued new restrictions on the provision of software as a service (SaaS) to Russia and Belarus. 

Andrei Klepach, chief economist atVEB RF (previously known as Vnesheconombank, Bank for Foreign Economic Affairs), a major Russian state-owned bank, has said that Russia will not be able to win a war of attrition against Ukraine backed by the West and is inevitably heading towards a major social crisis.

Iran and Russia have held a new round of talks in Moscow on strengthening cybersecurity, combating cybercrime and improving the resilience of critical infrastructure and communications networks against cyberattacks.
