ChatGPT maker OpenAI announced on Tuesday that it’s pausing the research and development of its newest AI models. This is a big course reversal for the firm, which has maintained that it can mitigate the significant cybersecurity risks posed by new AI models.

OpenAI  has said it is temporarily halting some internal testing of a forthcoming model after assessing its cyber capabilities as “critical.”

OpenAI will pause some of its work on a planned update to ChatGPT amid fears it could be too dangerous.

An internal review has raised questions about how far advanced AI systems can go when testing moves beyond controlled environments.
