Robert Davidson, professor and head of the Department of Accounting and Information Systems in the Pamplin College of Business at Virginia Tech, has been awarded the Thomas M. Wells and Kathy Dargo Professorship in Accounting and Information Systems by the Virginia Tech Board of Visitors. The Thomas M. Wells and Kathy Dargo Professorship in Accounting and Information Systems was established in 2017 to provide support to the Department of Accounting and Information Systems in the Pamplin College of Business.
A member of the Virginia Tech community for nine years, Davidson is an accomplished scholar in accounting, with three articles accepted for publication this year and several more under review in leading accounting journals. His accomplishments as an educator are exemplified by the multiple graduate courses he has taught, including a Ph.D. seminar in capital markets.
While department head, he has recruited 10 new faculty members and oversaw a comprehensive redesign of the undergraduate curriculum, which has contributed to a significant increase in students applying to the department and majoring in ACIS. He helped modify the department’s accelerated master’s program; students will soon be able to complete their master’s degree in just one additional semester. He also continues to chair the Virginia Accounting and Auditing Conference, expanding its reach to serve more than 700 CPAs annually through both in-person and online formats, while strengthening alumni and professional engagement by expanding the advisory board, organizing well-attended alumni events, and supporting the development of new scholarships and assistantships.
Davidson earned a bachelor’s degree from Wayne State University and an MBA and a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago.
