South Korea’s next-generation male figure skating ace, Seo Min-kyu (Kyung Shin-go), won a bronze medal in his senior Grand Prix debut.
In the men’s single free skating competition at the 2026-2027 International Skating Union (ISU) Figure Skating Senior Grand Prix held in Angé Ice Parc, France on the 26th (Korea Standard Time), Seo Min-gyu added 81.32 points in technical score (TES), 80.75 points in art score (PCS), and 1 point deduction, receiving a total score of 161.07 points. With 83.83 points in the short program, he scored a total of 244.90 points, ranking third after Adang Xiao Ying-pa (284.24 points in France) and Gao Miura (247.96 points in Japan) to win the bronze medal.
Seo Min-gyu is considered the next generation of Korean figure skating men’s single, following Cha Jun-hwan, who has been a male figure skater for a while. Having won the Junior World Championship in 2024 and won silver medals in the tournament last year and this year for the second consecutive year, he entered the senior stage where athletes aged 17 and over compete this season. With Cha Jun-hwan recently announcing a suspension of his career, Seo Min-gyu succeeded in winning the first prize from the first competition of the Senior Grand Prix, signaling new hope.
