Police investigate cyberattack as Albert Heijn works to restore full deliveries
Friday, 23 October 2026 – 17:00
Dutch police are investigating the cyberattack that disrupted operations at Albert Heijn and other retail chains belonging to parent company Ahold Delhaize. A police spokesperson confirmed the criminal investigation to Dutch news agency ANP. “Ahold Delhaize has filed a police report. We never comment on ongoing investigations,” the spokesperson said.
Ahold Delhaize, which also owns drugstore chain Etos and liquor retailer Gall & Gall, reported the cyber incident to police on Monday, about a week after it occurred. The company had taken some systems offline as a precaution, leaving its brands’ websites and apps unavailable for days. Several distribution centers were also forced to halt operations, resulting in empty supermarket shelves.
Albert Heijn expects to resume deliveries of all grocery orders next Wednesday, despite ongoing disruption caused by a cyber incident around two weeks ago. Its delivery capacity is currently only a third of its usual level.
Albert Heijn resumed grocery deliveries on Friday morning after a nearly two-week suspension. Customers with a delivery subscription will be able to book their usual delivery time again from Wednesday. The supermarket chain will gradually expand its available product range and delivery slots over the next few days.
Albert Heijn is offering compensation through various channels to customers whose grocery orders were canceled because of the cyber incident. The supermarket also cautions that customers contacting its helpline may experience longer waiting times. Customer service was temporarily disrupted as well, and the company says it is working to restore normal operations as quickly as possible.
