Kroger laying off 3K corporate staffers
Supermarket brand Kroger is cutting 3,000 corporate-level jobs over the next three years.
The workforce reduction is part of the grocer’s strategy to streamline operations and increase AI technology adoption, according to an AP News report.
“Technology is reshaping what’s possible,” CEO Greg Foran wrote in a memo to employees “The way work gets done is changing across every industry; we must adapt and take advantage of technology. We need to adopt capabilities, reduce duplicative work and look closely at where work is best fit to be done.”
The company has 409,000 employees and operates more than 2,700 stores.
The layoff action comes about eight months after it hired Foran as CEO.
