Ky. (WXIX) – President Donald Trump campaigned for Republican candidates in Kentucky and Ohio during a rally in Highland Heights Saturday, 17 days before the midterm elections
“This is the most important midterm in the history of our country,” Trump said.
Trump campaigned for Republican candidates including Ohio’s Jon Husted, who he also campaigned for weeks earlier in Vandalia.
Trump said that if Republicans win the Department of War, the administration would invest $100 million in the pharmaceutical company Anthea to revitalize a drug manufacturing facility in Winchester, Kentucky.
Trump also campaigned for Andy Barr and Ed Gallrein.
“Your next senator, Andy Barr, has been a warrior in Congress for many years, and I know it better than anybody because we fight side by side for so long,” Trump said.
Barr spoke at the rally about his campaign policies.
“And thanks to our new law, President Trump and I saved hardworking taxpayers over $1.1 trillion in waste, fraud and abuse,” Barr said. “Iran is to blame for higher gas prices, but thanks to the United States Navy, oil exports out of the Strait of Hormuz have been restored to 80% of pre-war levels.”
Barr’s opponent, Charles Booker, said he welcomes Trump’s visit to Kentucky.
“He’s having the opportunity to see what a lot of hard work looks like, because we’re in a position to win a race by replacing Mitch McConnell and retiring Andy Barr, and this is the consummate example that the race is tight,” Booker said.
Booker also described what his campaign is focused on.
“We’re not asking for a lot. We’re just asking that the government that we pay for works for us, not people like Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg,” Booker said. “We’re all across the commonwealth talking about what it means to lower the price of gas, to stop this chaos with Iran that has jacked up the price of fuel that is hurting our farmers, that’s hurting so many of us, and then to make sure we’re bringing our resources back home.”
Trump is scheduled to travel to Wichita, Kansas, Monday and Greenville, North Carolina, Tuesday.
