Students at Lamar Institute of Technology say they are still waiting on <a href="https://bitcomme.com/larson-gross-adds-scaleup-financial-solutions-in-denver/” title=”Larson Gross Adds ScaleUp Financial Solutions in Denver”>financial aid money they expected months ago, leaving some struggling to buy textbooks and pay bills.
Two students, who asked to remain anonymous out of fear of retaliation, said they have been given multiple expected disbursement dates but still have not received all of their funding.
“Three different dates… and still no money,” the students said of their experience waiting on financial aid.
One student said her schedule originally listed Aug. 10 as the date she would receive her Pell Grant and loans.
“Originally, on my schedule, it said August the 10th for my Pell Grant and my loans. And when August 10th came and no money came I called,” the student said.
That student said her Pell Grant arrived in September, but her loans still have not, and she said the date has been pushed back repeatedly.
Another student said the delays affect more than tuition.
“That extra funding that we get back from those grants, those go towards our bills, those go towards our textbooks,” the student said.
Lamar Institute of Technology said new federal rules changed when aid can be released. The college also acknowledged technical problems with processing federal loans. In a press release, the school said, “Federal loans are currently being manually processed due to technical difficulties, resulting in longer than usual wait times.”
The college said students will not be dropped from classes because of the delays.
Requests for an in-person interview with the college did not receive a response. Congressman Randy Weber was also contacted with questions about who is responsible, what oversight exists and what students can do if their money never arrives, but there was no response as of news time.
One student described the toll the delays are taking.
“Lot of stress. You’re already under a tremendous amount of stress going through college courses, but to have this add on to you…” the student said.
Lamar Institute of Technology said students can contact its financial aid office or visit the Eagles’ Nest for help.
