CLEARFIELD COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) —State police investigators say a bank teller in Clearfield County is facing numerous felony charges after forging signatures on customers’ withdrawal slips, totaling tens of thousands of dollars.
Authorities say 39-year-old Amanda Larue Chandler is accused of making a series of unauthorized withdrawals from customers’ accounts at the Mid Penn Bank in Decatur Township.
According to a criminal complaint, police say the investigation began in late August when the bank’s director of security was reportedly contacted by a customer who claimed that money was missing from their account.
Authorities say the suspicious cash withdrawal reportedly came from the bank’s Philipsburg location, however, the victim stated that they had never visited that branch.
Police say bank security footage later showed Chandler making repeated unauthorized withdrawals from customers’ accounts.
Investigators say the footage showed that Chandler would often wait until the bank’s drive-thru line was busy, at which time she would allegedly proceed to the teller desk, enter the customer’s information and create a withdrawal slip.
Police say she would then reportedly forge the customer’s signature on the slip to complete the transaction.
According to surveillance footage, investigators say Chandler would attempt to disguise the thefts by returning to the drive-thru window to continue interacting with customers, where she would secretly open the cash draw and hide the stolen funds inside.
Authorities allege that Chandler would finally remove the funds at the end of her shift — which totaled more than $32,000.
Investigators note that the bank has since returned the stolen funds to the customers’ accounts and is now seeking approximately $32,300 in restitution.
Online court dockets show that Chandler is being charged with dozens of felony and misdemeanor counts of forgery.
