Report: Manchester City found guilty of breaching Premier League financial regulations
Manchester City have been found guilty of breaching the Premier League’s financial regulations on 114 of 115 charges, according to a report from David Ornstein at The Athletic.
German publication Der Spiegel first made allegations against the club in 2018, which ultimately led to the Premier League’s investigation which has been going on for several years.
City were charged by the Premier League in 2023, with the case heard by an independent commission from September to December 2024.
A Man City spokesperson told Ornstein that the “Premier League process remains ongoing, with significant elements to be completed.”
Ornstein’s report comes from “sources briefed on the matter who spoke anonymously as they were not authorized to do so publicly.”
He reports that a punishment has not been determined “with all options on the table” and that it’s expected City will appeal the decision.
City has maintained its innocence since being charged for breaches of UEFA’s financial fair play, the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules, and failing to report accurate financial information for the period between 2009 and 2018.
City were facing a two-year ban from European competition plus a reported points deduction in 2020, but the ban was overturned by the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
