Fried Frank has appointed David Solander as an asset management partner in its Washington, D.C., office, expanding the firm’s regulatory capabilities for private funds, investment advisers, and financial institutions. The appointment strengthens Fried Frank’s Asset Management Practice as it continues investing in its private capital platform and advising clients on complex regulatory and compliance matters.
Solander’s practice focuses on advising sponsors and managers of hedge funds, private equity funds, real estate funds, and venture capital funds. He provides regulatory and transactional counsel throughout the investment product lifecycle, including fund formation, structuring, compliance reviews, regulatory examinations, and enforcement proceedings.
His experience includes advising financial services firms on the Investment Advisers Act, Investment Company Act, Securities and Exchange Commission compliance, and broker-dealer regulation.

The appointment expands the firm’s ability to advise clients on the regulatory requirements associated with establishing, operating, and managing investment funds. Solander will work alongside Fried Frank’s existing asset management regulatory lawyers, including Michael L. Sherman and Dabney O’Riordan.
His arrival follows several additions to Fried Frank’s Asset Management Practice over the past two years. The firm previously welcomed Allison Yacker, Audra Cohen, Amy Johnson, and Steven Homan in New York; Aranpreet Randhawa in London; and Dabney O’Riordan in Washington, D.C.
Together, these appointments have expanded the firm’s capabilities across fund formation, regulatory compliance, and other matters involving private capital.
Fried Frank’s global Asset Management Practice advises clients on investment funds, managed accounts, and other investment vehicles. Its work includes negotiating advisory agreements, structuring management companies, establishing compensation arrangements, and advising on spinouts, seeding transactions, and investments in asset management businesses.
The practice also advises clients on prime brokerage arrangements, trading documentation, ongoing operations, and other regulatory and commercial matters.
Solander’s appointment is intended to strengthen the regulatory expertise available to clients across these activities, particularly as private fund managers navigate evolving compliance requirements and increasingly complex investment structures.
