Thirty candidates for political office at the local and state level missed a deadline to submit post-primary election financial reports, according to the Washington state Public Disclosure Commission (PDC).
The list does not include any candidates from Lewis County, but it does feature a few from nearby counties, including two in Clark County, one in Skamania County and one in Jefferson County.
State law requires campaigns and committees participating in the August primary election and registering as full reporters to submit expenditure reports known as C4 reports 21 and seven days prior to the general election. Full reporting is required for any committee or candidate that raises and spends more than $7,000.
State law also requires a financial report on the 10th of the month after an election regardless of financial activity.
Candidates listed by the PDC as missing the deadline failed to file disclosure reports for the Sept. 10 post-primary report, which covered spending between July 28 and the end of August. The PDC has sent overdue notices to all 30 of the candidates it identified as missing the deadline the day following the deadline on Friday, Sept. 11.
Those who fail to file financial disclosure reports to the PDC may be subject to enforcement action. According to the PDC, improving compliance with the state’s mandatory expenditure report deadlines is one of the commission’s strategic goals.
