Longtime WPP and GroupM leader Tushar Vyas will move on after a multi-decade stint, transitioning from media strategy roles to pursue opportunities across innovation, education and the startup ecosystem.

Tushar Vyas, Chief Strategy Officer for WPP India, has announced his exit from the company, bringing to a close a 25-year-long association with the WPP network and its media agencies.

Vyas reflected on his journey, describing WPP as more than just a workplace. He said it had been a space for learning, growth, relationships and professional milestones, thanking colleagues, clients and partners who were part of his career.

“It’s difficult to summarise what a quarter century means… WPP has been much more than a workplace,” he wrote, adding that he would carry the memories, learnings and relationships forward.

Vyas most recently served as Chief Strategy Officer, India at WPP, a role he took on in 2023 after serving as President, GroupM South Asia, where he led the media investment group across the region. His move to the group-level strategy role marked a transition from business leadership to a broader strategic mandate within WPP.

During his tenure, he held several leadership positions across GroupM, including Chief Strategy Officer, GroupM South Asia (2015–2019) and Managing Partner (2010–2015). He was also formerly National Director – Interaction, the group’s digital media arm, and earlier worked with Mindshare as National Director, building his foundation in media and marketing strategy.

Vyas also spent time outside the WPP network as Director and CMO at SureWaves, an ad-tech startup focused on digital media infrastructure, before returning to leadership roles within GroupM.

Looking ahead, he said he plans to focus on areas that have long interested him, including academia, the startup and innovation ecosystem, and the social impact sector.

“As I look ahead, I’m excited to dedicate my energy to academia, the startup and innovation ecosystem, and the social impact sector,” he said.

An alumnus of MICA and a Chevening Fellow at the University of Oxford, Vyas has been associated with strategic leadership across media, marketing and digital transformation within the WPP ecosystem.

Reflecting on his exit, Vyas said while he is stepping away from his role, he will carry forward the relationships, experiences and learnings built over the years.

“Here’s to new beginnings and staying connected,” he added.

He did not specify his next professional assignment.
