Content creator and entrepreneur Ranveer Allahbadia has said creators need to <a href="https://bitcomme.com/at-14-ceo-behind-popular-doll-brand-helps-young-entrepreneurs-build-businesses/” title=”At 14, CEO behind popular doll brand helps young entrepreneurs build businesses”>build businesses beyond content as the influencer ecosystem becomes increasingly crowded and the economics of creator-led careers come under pressure.
In a LinkedIn post, Allahbadia said he co-founded Monk Entertainment with Viraj Sheth because he did not expect content creation to remain a sustainable career for decades.
“Content careers do not have a fifty-year shelf life,” Allahbadia said, adding that he believed creators might have “five or six good years” at the pace at which the industry is evolving.
Allahbadia said building a second business alongside his content career had helped him prepare for a future beyond content creation.
He also warned that the level of money influencers have made over the past decade may not continue at the same scale.
According to Allahbadia, the issue is not a decline in audiences but the rapid increase in the number of influencers entering the market. He argued that the growing supply of creators could eventually put pressure on the economics of influencer marketing.
“The kind of money influencers have made over the last decade will not hold at that scale for much longer,” he said.
Allahbadia said the changing economics of the creator market should push new creators to think beyond building audiences and views.
“If you are just starting out in content right now, I am not going to tell you to go make more videos. I am going to tell you to start a business,” he said.
He described content as increasingly becoming a marketing tool for a broader business rather than the business itself.
“Content is not the business anymore. It is how you market one,” Allahbadia said.
The entrepreneur added that creators who remain successful over the next decade may not necessarily be those with the highest views today, but those who use their current audience and platform to build businesses that can exist beyond their creator careers.
He ended the post by asking creators to identify the business opportunity underneath the content they are currently producing.
