If political pundits and betting experts are correct, Democrats should have no problem retaking control of the U.S. House in the upcoming midterm elections.
As of Oct. 27, 2026, Dems had a 90.3% chance of winning the House, according to theElection Betting Odds site operated by Maxim Lott and John Stossel. The 270 to Win polling site estimates that Dems will capture anywhere from 214 to 235 of the 435 total House seats.

Should this happen, the potential stock-market impact would depend on several things — including whether Democrats also take control of the Senate. In either case, you can expect certain stocks and industries to benefit from a Dem-controlled House.
Here’s a look at five stocks that are poised to gain the most if Democrats win the House
1. First Solar
-
Closing price on Oct. 9: $177.82 per share
-
YTD gain/loss (through Oct. 9): -31.93%
-
What could drive growth: Utility-scale solar demand, more domestic production capacity, manufacturing tax credits and technology
-
Main risk: Lower solar tax credits under current administration
While the stock markets in general have enjoyed robust growth so far in 2026, First Solar has lost nearly one-third of its value since the beginning of the year. A big reason can be traced to the 2025 One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which reduced or eliminated a number of renewable energy tax incentives.
A Democratic House alone can’t reverse that law. But it can block policies that would further harm the clean energy sector while also boosting demand and production capacity for solar power. If they secure the Senate as well, it’s a clear lane.
2. NextEra Energy
-
Closing price on Oct. 9: $77.38
-
YTD gain/loss (through Oct. 9): -3.61%
-
What could drive growth: Investment in grid infrastructure, renewable energy and battery storage, rising electricity demand from AI data centers
-
Main risk: Rising interest rates and borrowing costs to finance expansion
NextEra’s regulated utility business and renewable-energy portfolio offer exposure to electricity demand and long-term investment in power infrastructure. A more favorable clean-energy policy outlook could “improve sentiment” toward its renewables business.
3. Centene
-
Closing price on Oct. 9: $65.36
-
YTD gain/loss (through Oct. 9): 58.83%
-
What could drive growth: Higher Medicaid and Medicare enrollment, better pricing, growth in prescription-drug coverage
-
Main risk: Medicaid reimbursement rates, member eligibility, medical costs and implementation of existing federal law could “overwhelm” any political tailwind from a Democratic House
