SUMMER OF SPEEDRUNNING MANIA: The Great Gamble
Get ready for a month of mind-blowing exploits, jaw-dropping glitches, and endless hours of gaming chaos. Summer Games Done Quick (SGDQ) is back, and it’s gonna be a wild ride. The 2024 edition kicks off this Sunday and will run until July 6th, with a lineup so packed, it’s like a gamer’s dream come true.
BUT WHO NEEDS SLEEP ANYWAY?
From the same folks who brought you Awesome Games Done Quick, comes the craziest speedrunning marathon the world has ever seen. With runs dedicated to some of the most iconic (and obscure) games, including Balatro, Alan Wake 2, and yes, even Baldur’s Gate 3‘s Honour Mode (because honor is overrated). And if that’s not enough, a shipless run of Outer Wilds will leave you questioning the very fabric of reality.
AND THE CANINE CONTENDER OF THE YEAR IS…
Make way for Peanut Butter, the shiba inu sensation who slayed the NES game Gyromite and is now ready to take on the world of speedrunning. At SGDQ, this furry phenom will attempt to win a game of Ken Griffey Jr. Presents Major League Baseball in just 30 minutes. The world watches with bated breath as this canine contender takes on the behemoth that is Major League Baseball.
IT’S LIKE A GAMING PILGRIMAGE
The first run of SGDQ, Yoshi’s Story, starts today at 1PM ET. Join the gaming faithful as they make their way to the Games Done Quick Twitch channel, where the entire marathon will be streamed live. And if you can’t keep up, don’t worry – the event will be archived on their YouTube channel, because we know you’ll want to relive every glorious moment.
THE REASON WE GAMERS LOVE TO GAMBLE WITH OUR SANITY
All these speedruns, and what do they add up to? A chance to raise money for Doctors Without Borders, a noble cause that’s almost as thrilling as watching a human (or canine) attempt to beat a game in under 30 minutes. So, grab a snack, get comfortable, and witness the madness that is Summer Games Done Quick.
