eTenders Under Siege: Cyber Thugs Siphoning Billions from Public Pockets

    Published on:

The great stagnation in the world of tender notifications has arrived. It seems that the recent leadership changes have put a damper on the otherwise thriving tender scene. But, don’t worry, we’re not here to dwell on the negative.

In a shocking turn of events, it has come to light that the eTenders Portal is no longer secure! That’s right, the very website where government departments and entities solicit bids from suppliers has been compromised. Google has given it a less-than-stellar review, saying that something is amiss with the connection and that someone might just be able to snoop on sensitive information sent between the server and browser.

Industry players, are you thinking of participating in tenders that use the eSubmission capability? Think twice! Hackers might just be able to intercept and view confidential information. It’s a brave new world, indeed.

In other tender news, the State Information Technology Agency (SITA) is on the hunt for someone to provide hardware maintenance and operating system restoration services for the South African Police Service (SAPS) for five long years. Meanwhile, the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) wants bids for Oracle EBS support and maintenance, as well as a new implementation, for three years. And let’s not forget the Eskom peaking digital media project, or the RAF’s multi-cloud backup and recovery solution.

The Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC) is looking for some serious expertise in project management, enterprise architecture, and information and communications technology (ICT) resources. The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) wants someone to develop, test, migrate data, integrate with external systems, and implement a case management system. And Transnet Freight Rail is curious about exploring a data-as-a-service ownership model for condition assessment systems.

So, as we navigate these uncertain times, we can’t help but wonder what the future holds for tender notifications. One thing is for sure, though – the game has changed, and you’d better be ready to adapt if you want to stay ahead of the competition!
