    A stark reality has emerged: Africa is in the crosshairs of a global cyber threat epidemic. According to Check Point’s latest research, a staggering 15 African countries have joined the ranks of the most attacked globally. The question on everyone’s mind: what’s behind this surge in cyber attacks and who’s next?

    The Silent Scream: Africa’s Cyber Security Crisis

    Ethiopia tops the list of most vulnerable countries, with an NRI of 100%. Zimbabwe is hot on its heels, ranked third globally with an NRI of 77.1%. Nigeria, once thought to be immune, has seen a drastic increase in its risk ranking, now ranked 19th globally with an NRI of 58.5%.

    African Nations: A Cybersecurity Hotbed

    Kenya and Ghana have also witnessed a significant surge in attacks, placing 11th and 15th, respectively. Zambia, once a quiet outlier, has now joined the ranks of the vulnerable, with an NRI score of 40.5%. South Africa, previously thought to be a haven, has moved up in the rankings to 59th globally with an NRI of 42%.

    Maldives, Angola, and Mauritius: The Dark Horses

    These countries have also joined the top twenty most vulnerable, with the Maldives ranking 4th, Angola ranking 5th, and Mauritius ranking 9th.

    A Call to Arms: Cyber Security in Africa

    Issam El Haddioui, head of security sales engineering for Check Point Africa, warns that these findings underscore the urgent need for enhanced cyber security for African businesses. Maya Horowitz, VP of research at Check Point Software, emphasizes the importance of robust endpoint protection, vigilant monitoring, and comprehensive user education in the face of this evolving threat landscape.
