Do car insurance companies know exactly how long you’ve been driving?

Apologies if this is not the right place for this sort of question, but I have been offered a van driving job and the employer is only now asking if I have held my driver’s license for at least 12 months.

I’m a few months short of that and was wondering if it was worth claiming that I have or would that be something they would be able to call my bluff on and inevitably not hire me?

I’m in the UK if that changes anything.
